Gift Of the estate of Julia Vinograd 2018.
Born in 1943, Julia Vinograd received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree
from the University of Iowa. When she returned to Berkeley in 1967, she began a lifetime of writing poetry, much of it about
Berkeley. During the 1969 conflict over People's Park she became famous for blowing bubbles to help diffuse the tense situation.
Over the years she continued to blow bubbles along Telegraph Avenue, earning her the nickname, "Bubble Lady." She was presented
with a lifetime achievement award by the City of Berkeley in 2004. Vinograd died on December 5, 2018.
